Shellfish warning continues for south west waterways
People are reminded not to eat shellfish collected from the wild after recent tests confirmed high levels of potentially toxic algae in Perth and south west waterways.
The Department of Health issued a shellfish warning on Friday October 30 for the Swan and Canning rivers. The Peel-Harvey Estuary and Wilson Inlet near Denmark were also included in the alert.
The warning does not include shellfish purchased in WA supermarkets. These are managed by a strict quality-assurance program to ensure the product is safe for human consumption.
Recreational activities including swimming, fishing and boating are not affected.
