The Swan River Trust cares for the Swan and Canning rivers.

We work with the community, industry, local and State government to ensure the Swan Canning River System is conserved and managed so its environmental quality is maintained and improved, and people can continue to enjoy it.

This website provides information about the rivers, the scientific and regulatory role of the Swan River Trust, our legislation, policies, programs, and how you can get involved to help keep our rivers healthy.

We encourage you to use and explore this site extensively and we welcome your feedback.

River Guardians set for Red Bull Air Race

River Guardians will be out and about at the Red Bull Air Race on November 1 and 2 with a key message: It’s your river – please look after it. Check out the River Guardians stand on the South Perth foreshore and meet Jon the Swan.

By joining River Guardians you can find out more about the Swan and Canning rivers, learn how to care for them, and hear about exclusive member-only events, with free memberships on offer until the end of the year.

The Trust has commenced an exciting new phase of planning for the future management of the rivers and results of the consultation are now available.

Boating for the future

The Boating Management Strategy is now in the final stages of development. Submissions and Trust responses can be found on the Have your say page.

River Guardians launched

The River Guardians pilot program was launched in June, allowing people who share an interest in the Swan and Canning rivers to network, take part in river activities and develop new skills.

River Guardians has also announced a competition to find a new name for its mascot – a giant black swan.

Acting now for the future of the Swan and Canning rivers

Results from a comprehensive study about the impacts of climate change on the Swan and Canning rivers have been released. The study identified potential changes to the river system and provided strategies to best manage the adverse effects.
